This story is one of the most embarrassing moments in my adult life. A recent winter storm put me in an awkward situation that I would love to forget.
I live in Texas with my wife and 13 year old daughter. My wife and I work normal jobs and we live in a nice apartment complex just outside of Austin.
I am a self-proclaimed “prepper” and have been since 2008. During the financial crisis I learned that disaster can strike at any moment so it’s best to be prepared. Like most Americans I was unsure about my financial and job security. Since I had a wife and brand new baby, this was no ordinary time for me.
So I learned everything I could about food storage, bug out bags, and water purification just to name a few. So when a nasty winter storm was forecasted to hit Texas this past February, I knew I was ready.
Or so I thought.
Oh I did the usual. I made sure I had at least a few weeks worth of food and water, made sure our first aid kit was up to date, and checked our flashlights. Now I’ll admit, I had a battery problem.
I had plenty of them, that wasn’t the issue. The problem was they were scattered around in our junk drawer. We never really needed to use our flashlights because our grid is so stable, so it was something I never gave much thought to.
So when the power went out, we reached for our flashlights. The first day without power was uneventful because we were ready. But by the second evening, we knew we were in trouble. Turns out all the flash lights barely had any juice left in their batteries.
When I opened the junk drawer to get more batteries, my heart sank. Some of the batteries had come in contact with one another causing them to leak battery acid everywhere. I didn’t want to risk ruining our flashlights - or even worse - getting a chemical burn.
So I set out to go see if the nearby Target had batteries. The problem is, my apartment is located at the bottom of a steep hill. Since the parking lot was now an ice skating rink, driving was out of the question.
As I was walking up the hill, the last thing I remember was my feet slipping out from underneath me. When I woke up, a handful of my neighbors, along with my wife and daughter were standing over me. My head hurt, and my daughter looked embarrassed.
It was a real low point for me.
I knew my lack of battery organization was a flaw in my emergency preparations. We rarely - if ever - have power outages where I live. So I had become complacent about keeping and maintaining batteries for our flashlights.
While it may not seem like that big of a deal, I never wanted to be put in another situation like that again. It could have ended up much worse. That last thing anyone wants is to seriously injure themselves.
That’s when I found a product called Battery Vault that promised to take control of my battery mess once and for all.
Battery Vault is the ultimate battery storage system with its unique double-sided design that stores and organizes up to 180 batteries. Each battery is kept safe and secure in a customized slot. The clear locking lid allows you to see which batteries you have with ease. It fits in any cabinet, drawer or shelf. Best of all, Battery Vault comes with a battery tester so you can quickly test the life of the batteries you have.
So far, hundreds of thousands of people all across the country bought a Battery Vault and for good reason.
Battery Vault has exploded all over the internet and is quickly becoming a permanent fixture in each household.
My neighbor Dave doesn't have a prepper bone in his body. He barely buys enough groceries to last him and his family a week, he couldn’t put on a bandaid without instructions, and he doesn’t even keep an extra jug of water for emergencies.
But he has three kids who love electronics. Everything from drones, to remote control cars, to handheld gaming devices. So when I saw the Battery Vault sitting on his counter I had to ask.
“Do you like this thing?” I asked.
“Absolutely! It helped declutter my junk drawer and makes it easy to find a battery whenever I need one. Even my kids haven’t been able to break this thing. I’d say the low cost is a small price to pay for the peace of mind my Battery Vault offers.”
So, after talking with my neighbor and reading reviews online I decided to give it a shot.
The verdict?
I love it!
It’s just like my neighbor said. It’s a safe, convenient way to organize my batteries without the stress and hassle of trying to find them when I need them.
When I ordered, the best deal that they were offering was $49.99 a unit with free shipping so I went ahead and bought 4 units. With space for 180 batteries in each container, I have enough batteries to last me for a lifetime. I’d gladly pay three times that much to never have to deal with batteries rolling around in my junk drawer ever again.
In my opinion, Battery Vault has been a blessing in more ways than one. It’s compact, convenient, and it keeps my batteries safe and organized.
